That is taken on the Beartooth Pass which was the primary ride for the Star Days 2009 in Billings, MT. The pass takes you to 11,000 feet then drops into a valley that can take you back to Billings or you can go west to Cooke City and enter Yellowsto…

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year, 2010 to all. There will not be a day for riding in this part of Idaho! It has been snowing since mid-day yesterday and is expected to continue until later this afternoon! It is beautiful . . . . . . for skiing, sliding, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing but NOT motorcycle riding!! At least 10+ inches! God bless!

HCMR

I just returned from the 10th annual HCMR in Baker City, OR! What a great experience given this was probably one of the most wet events in HCMR history. Many of the planned events went off on schedule in spite of the wet weather conditions. Special thanks to the community, Mr Peacock at BHS, the police department and all the vendors that made this all happen! I will be signing up for this event for next year!! I hope to see more MMP members at the event! I will post some pictures later!

Sportster 1200 Custom

I was asked by a friend to drive her new, 2008 Sportster 1200 Custom from Boise to McCall as she is not licensed. I was glad to oblige since I had once considered a 1200 Custom as my bike of choice and affordability. The bike weighs in at about 560+ pounds so is not a light weight anymore (older 1200's used to be below 500 lbs). The bike comes stock with custom seat, wire wheel up front, 5 speed transmission, forward controls (a must on any bike in my opinion), a 150/80 rear tire, self-cancellin… Continue

That's such a generous offer, thank you so much! I was actually thinking of going east on 12 out of WA, then south on 95 either all the way to Boise, or hopping on 55 to Boise. I just might pop in and say hello, or at least call on my way through. I'll probably spend the first night of my trip in Clarkston WA or Lewiston, then I would be in your area early the next day. I'll let you know.

Hey, how're you doing? I'm planning a road trip for June-July, but will only take 2-3 weeks this year instead of a month. My youngest (31) is making me a first-time Grandma so I'll spend my last week with her. I plan on going through ID, UT, into AZ, then back through eastern CA and ride through Joshua Tree, Yosemite and Death Valley, then up through central OR and home.

Just stopped by to say hello. A friend (biking) called today forenoon to say he was going to be in town and wanted to have a cup of coffee. We met at a local restaurant, and spent 3 hours drinking fully caffeinated coffee. It is now 3:00 AM and I'm still "wired" ... guess the caffeine worked, huh?

Got up to mid-30s today and we had some good "melt", but the wind was up and it was spitting rain, so having even a short ride around town was decided against as an idea whose time had not yet arrived. By the way, my riding buddy is a 68 year old retired teacher who now makes his living running his own "Victorian" style home remodeling company as a general contractor. We're within a year of age, and both are English-conscious in speech and writing, so enjoy sharing intelligible conversation.

Weather is turning cold again tomorrow, as it has been since early December. But the mid-winter heat wave the past week has seen temps here rise above +20F for the first time in something like 23 days.

I'd better at least try to get some sleep - tomorrow is busy. Stay warm and think of the smells of spring coming soon enough. ;^)

Good for Idaho! Snow in Florida might suck, but I've been to Utah and Idaho, and know what's important and what's not. LOL!

The guy (Woody) in Florida has a 100% favorable rating in eBay, and that can be tough to do. But he has achieved it, as a seller and as a buyer, so he does work hard to make sure the people he deals with are treated well. I'm adding a link to his eBay 'store", and if you go there, samples of his seats on different bikes should be shown along the left-side of the page (in Firefox ~ Internet Explorer might display differently).

http://myworld.ebay.com/ebaymotors/pillowtopseatcompany?ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:MOTORS:1181

A link is right here.

You might have to do a copy/paste into your address bar - I'll try to hyperlink it, but sometimes that doesn't work ~ grin. Hope this helps.

The Patriot Guard in our area is going into a 24/7 welcome home program - started last Sunday, but I left to teach a software class in Chicago on Sunday and just got back, so today will be my first participation effort. What we plan to do is have someone at the airport (Moline International, in Moline, Illinois) at all times it is open, through December 24th. We will stand a flag line at the point that passengers first enter the "public" part of the terminal, and shake hands, hug, or just say "Thank you" to anyone who is getting on - or off - a flight into or out of MLI. This will be the 3rd annual "mission" of this type, but our first effort to go 24/7.

Talk more later - let me know if the link to "Woody's" site doesn't come through for you.

Hi Mike! That big storm a week or ten days ago was a one-time thing (so far). Tied up traffic in the Iowa area for a day or so, but within 2 days was under control nearly everywhere. The farther West you lived in Iowa, the harder you got hit, ranging from 18" in Western regions, to ourselves with just 8". We were able to clear streets and sidewalks one time, and there was no appreciable additional accumulation, so it was just that one time.

Right now our temps are "zero" and below, but later today and for the next 4-5 days it is supposed to warm up into the 20s and 30s, so that's a nice thought. ;^)

I really do empathize with the business people who are struggling with the lack of snow for their skiing trade. It would be the equivalent to this area having a drought, and those of us who grew up on the farm, or who are still reliant on crops or crop-related income, can certainly "feel that pain".

I ordered a new set of seats for the V Star, Mike. They should be here this week sometime. The stock seat setup for the V-1100 (same as the 1300 and larger engine machines?) is okay, but for all day or day-after-day long distance riding, it leaves you with a case of "iron-butt".

There is a gentleman in Florida who starts with the stock seat base (for a perfect fit); he then custom-builds the cushion and cover for you, using memory-foam layers, and other cushioning materials, and covers it with leather (on request) or more commonly, one of the synthetics like Naugahyde, for good rain repelling attributes.

His specialty/favorite is the "pillow" style, using either buttons or stitching to create the deep pillow effect. It seemed too inexpensive not to give a try. He charges $250 for both seats (rider and pillion), and if you send him your original seat, he will refund $50 of that price. I was about to put down $700 for "Ultimate" (mfr) seats, and decided to give this guy a chance, and perhaps save myself $400-500 in the bargain.
