Good Rides

Tell me more about these rides in N.C. & TN. My friends and I have been coming to NC for the last 5 years, it is sort of a memorial ride for a buddy of ours. However, I do not know of the Roan, or other rides in Shady Valley. Currently, my favorite ride is taking the Northern part of 28 off of 74 down to Cashier. I also pass many waterfalls on the way. My friends like the Dragon's Tail, but I prefer other roads. We usually come down in July/Aug. and our 08 trip is scheduled for July 27 08. Let me know what roads you like and why.

From Elizabethton, Tn Hwy91 to Shady Valley Hwy 421 into Mountain City on the Snake. of from Hwy 91to Backbone Rock through Damscus VA. From Roan Moutain on 19E to the Blue Ridge Parkway or on down to Spruce Pine to Burnsville on to Mars Hill to Hot Springs back toward Tennesse on 25/70 to Parrottsville,TN to Greenville,Tn back to Hampton, TN. Tnharleygirl is the expert on the North Carolina roads. Motoboy is just an expert on riding anywhere peiod. Where is the roads 28 and 74 you are refering to.; ▶ Reply to This

This is a good road, prior to getting on 28 there is a convient store, where you can get gas, food, drink and restroom. Nice paved, windy road. Nice scenery shaded, and water fall(s) at the end. When you get close to the end of 28, stop at the Gem shop, which is on the left, but be careful of the gravel slanted parking lot for a FREE waterfall map.; ▶ Reply to This

I can get around really good but don't aways remember the road numbers. Marty and his wife are all about Rd. numbers. Roan Mountain is 2 1/2 hrs. from Pigeon Forge (I-81 - I-40) and approx. 3 1/2 from Bryson City (I-40 - 74). We have not had a chance to ride over there yet, hope to this summer. Motoboy wants to ride all day Saturday and then camp and ride sunday..
Kenny (Motoboy) lives outside of Kingsport and we meet him and ride. He has a dual sport and you never know where you may end up if he is the leader that day. He has posted pictures on line from some of his adventures out west. If you'll come close in July, let us know and maybe we can ride together.; ▶ Reply to This

July 27, we leave PA for NC, will be there about 6 PM on the 27th, unless weather stops us, or slows us down.
As you can guess, riding 499 miles, you almost always hit rain. Its how hard it is raining, that stops or slows us.
We started out with a group of 5, then dropped to 4, then grew again to 7, so who knows how many of us will show. Most of the bikes are HD, except for my dad and I ride trikes, and my brother rides a GW. I know where 40 & 81 is, that is part of our trip in. We take 70 W to 79 S to 19 S to 77 S to 81, then 40; ▶ Reply to This

The state park has cabins and there are also other cabins to rent on the Roan. I live in the valley about 10 minutes from the state park. It is approx. 12 times to the top of the Roan and if you proceed, you will come out in NC. I have a Relay for Life Team and sponsor a Poker Run and this year we went across the Roan and rode on the Blue Ridge Parkway. By the way MCCable, Motoboy, and Samentha are my friends. I have not loaded any pictures yet but who has to with friends like them doing it for you.

Been wanting to go North and ride Hungary Mother again. North of abington, Virginia road alot like the Dragon .....
