Hey bro's and sisters

I'm from Sydney Australia. Looking to do a cross country scenic ride across the states. I'm looking to get a good itinerary to do this, including biker friendly sites, cool scenic areas and must see places. Where else should I get this info but from the bikers themselves
I don't know much about the states but I know my trip needs to start in California and include the states Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, New York and New Jersey. I'm hoping people who have done a cross country ride can shed some light and maybe give me a trip plan, maps and a general time line. Any help people can give me would be unreal. I would be travelling through summer. I am aiming for 3 weeks, if that is too short, could someone shed some light?

Hey mate. thanks for the reply and the blog. I'm deciding whether to hire an electra glide, or purchase a bike from sucker punch sallys, pick it up when I arrive, and use that. I am not after one kind of road, I am looking for the typical mountanous ands desert scenes always seen in movies etc. I'm always one for a party and I am more into small towns although as I am technically a tourist, I would still like a bit of big city touring.

Matt, welcome to the site and the USA. I have not done a cross country trip on the bike but do know the western states quite well. There is so much to see in this part of the US, you might be missing some great areas by staying to the southern routes in order to pass through Texas and Oklahoma. You might consider a little more nortern route that would take you through parts of Arizona, Colorado and through some of the middle states. Not that there isn't alot to see in Texas and Oklahoma but some of the 'must see' areas are more through the more nortern/middle western mountain states and then divert to New York and New Jersey then south to Florida along the Gulf Coast through Louisianna then Texas ....... Are you planning to return to California to return to Australia? If so you could do the reverse and come back through the mid west and into Colorado and back either a little farther north. Three weeks seems a little short but if you have all summer, what the heck! Where ever you go on the bike, will be an awsome ride for you! Enjoy.

Hey Bro cheers for the info. I am really flexible with my time. Although, there is a limit (whatever my woman decides) but the route you have suggested would work really well I think. I was planning on setting off back home from NY or NJ, but I think crossing back might be the best idea. I am not planning on making the trip overly scenic, by that I mean stopping at every museum and store. My idea was to bookmark the main touristy things I need to see, then just ride and find my own fun. I think that might be the best thing to do as over here in Australia, that tends to be the best way to see a lot. Tell me what you think and if you can, any must see's though Arizona and Colorado?

I agree with what I have read so far, there is so much to see. If you are coming into California and leaving from California I would suggest the Grand Canyon in northern Arizona, then north to Yellowstone and across the northern run through the Dakotas to the east coast. Then down south to Florida and back across the southern route. There is so much it is hard to squeeze all the good stuff into one trip. I have never made a trip like this on a bike but I have pretty much covered the US through the years. In my opinion the must sees are the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Yosemite, Mt. Rushmore, the Appalachian Mtns., the Smokey Mtns., the St. Louis arch. Every state has something for everyone. Small towns, big towns, cities, scenic routes, historic stops. It is really hard to recommend what would be the best for you, but I think no matter where you go, you will leave with an experience of a lifetime and memories that will remain sweet forever. Make sure you bring extra cards for you digital camera or lots and lots of film.

Well in Texas A must ride is on the three Sisters It's three road in the area they call the hill country . Also Luckinbach TX. is not to far from there. If you go though Dallas ride Route 4. In Oklahoma well there do I start, there's just to many great roads! The cub I ride with here in Texas Do a lot of riding in that state. Ok! ride to Meers OK. through the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge ( hwy 49 to 115) to Meers OK. and eat at the Meers store & restaurant. then head to Mena Arkansas and ride hwy 1 (Talimena Scenic dr.) and stay in Mena.

That's my two cents

Yeah thats a great site. I've been on there a bit. I'm really just looking for local knowledge and places off the beaten track so to speak. I'm starting to get the idea I may need to extend my trip to get more in. Thanks for your time bro.
