Do you give other bikers the wave? And do you get the wave back. Around here most bikers will give you the wave but there still some that wont. Dont know if they are new riders and do not know about the wave. Some just dont care and there are the ones that if you dont ride the same kind of bike as them no wave .

Yes, I always wave at every biker I meet regardless of what they are riding. To me "the wave" is symbolic of camaraderie that I believe ALL bikers should have towards each other. I ride a Wing, and wave to all bikers on any two wheeled ride. Most of the time I get the wave back, but not always. The only times I don't wave is when I'm clutching or something that makes it impossible for me to do so, or I miss one flying by me in the opposing lane on a divided freeway. But I always feel a little bad when I know that I missed one.

I'm also a private airplane pilot, and although we don't have a special wave, there is a certain bond that most of us feel towards other pilots because we share a common love for something that the majority of the rest of the world will never experience. Although there are a lot more bikers that pilots, for me it's the same kind of thing. Everyone and their dogs and probably a few of their cats too, drive cars a pickups. And that's fine. But it takes someone special to recognize the freedom, thrill and enjoyment of riding on two wheels! That my friends is something that most of the common citizens never find. Some will find it, and some never will, and that's ok too. But for those of us who HAVE found it, the WAVE is like saying, "I know the secret too! And I'm so glad we both found it!" I'm always disappointed when I don't get a return wave, but never upset, cause you never know why they didn't return the wave. Yup, there are those who are to stuck up to wave back, and then there are those who simply didn't see you or were busy being safe rather than waving, but which one of us wouldn't agree that safety is more important at that moment? And for the few that are just to stuck up to wave? ...well, I guess they've only found half of the secret...the half about riding, and not the half about the camaraderie!

As for the bike brand issue, if I ride a wing because it is my ONLY transportation and I ride it all year and all weather (except snow and ice - then I stay home). And the Wing seems to be the best suited for the way I ride. But if I had the money, my garage would look like the shoes in a lady's closet! A different one for every day, mood, outfit, and any other excuse I could find to buy another one of a different brand, color or style. :) I think the lady's are lucky that shoes don't cost as much as bikes and I envy them for that! lol

I know It has been a while since the last post on this topic but as I am watching another 6+ inches of snow hit the ground, it is a good reminder of the comaraderie of the bikers signified by 'the wave'. I miss that and all that Tim expressed is so true. I look forward to getting my first 'wave' when I am on that first ride of the season! I know there will be other riders out there that will be doing the 'wave' as a sign of the chance to be back on the road! Practice during the dark days of winter so you can do it right!

I do get and receive waves from most bikers on the road, cruisers/ sports bikes, etc. the ony thing that seems to dictate whether or not I get a wave is whether teh other guy is lost in thought or not. I ride a Honda and get waves from all brands out there.
