After 30 years of riding, I still have difficulty making slow U-turns with my 700+lbs Harley. I slow to a stop and walk the bike in the turn with an on / off throttle technique.

I recently purchased the Ride Like A Pro DVD and book. ENLIGHTENMENT!!

The key is the position of your head, use of the friction zone and the rear break.

Now, all I need is the end of the PA winter so I can practice.

Has anyone used the DVD or attended a class? I'm interested in learning how helpful the program was.

If that is the DVD by Jerry "Motorman" (something) the author is a pretty good teacher. But specifically regarding your issue on U-turns, the U-turn is simple but needs to be practiced until it becomes 2nd nature (over and over and over and over). What's the trick?

Set your tempo and trigger the turn by turning out, then back into the turn while looking over your shoulder at the spot you intend to end up (facing the other way). I am assuming you have already mastered the turn technique of "pushing down" on the handlebar grip to turn, as opposed to "steering" through the turn ...

I strongly recommend the "practice thing", but when you feel confident, enroll in your local MSF course to find out how little you really know (grin). The web site to find info and a schedule of when the Motorcycle Safety Foundation might be sponsoring a course near you, go to the link right here. Good luck and be safe.

Larry,
Thanks for the comments. I need to practice as soon as the weather breaks. The next time you hear from me, I'll be an expert, or selling a Harley with a dented engine guard ;-]
